Our Nation Un-tied
April 23, 2010
Your shoe is untied
You might trip
Your long laces, and rocky spaces
Could end in disaster.
What has held us secure
In the running of our national race through history
How can it so quickly be untied
and lie vulnerable in waves of hurried changes
Slow down and restore security
Review the familiar loops and snug each eyelet
Return to the basic knots that have secured us so long before
that we might run strong once again.
We don’t need heavy new boots of government
We don’t need lazy handed-over velcro
We don’t need to have someone tell us our good dependable shoes are tired and worn out.
We simply need to re-tie the laces we have.
Stop running.
Humbling bend down, bow your head and focus on the what has carried us before
And run in security that you have tied your shoe and you know it is ready
to support your own running
Take action now or the fall will not be of one runner, but of us all.
